Priya is 23. It is eleven at night. Her parents have gone to bed believing she has a placement offer. She does not. The engineering degree is done. The shortlist did not come. The chair she thought she was walking into has been quietly withdrawn.
Two shocks are arriving in India together. A structural one: AI is closing the entry-level door faster than any previous transition. And an interior one: behind every closed door is a young professional carrying a loss they cannot yet name.
We have a five-to-seven year window before multiple graduating cohorts pass through the economy without being absorbed into formal work. That is a planning horizon, not a metaphor.
Governance of AI - the ladder.
